The 2019-2020 slate of officers includes returning members Andre, Susan and Isaac, plus three first-time inductees in Ilona, Albert and William.

The ceremony featured the presentation of symbolic items to each of the inductees. A $2 bill bearing the image of President Thomas Jefferson was presented to Isaac, who accepted with the promise to follow the model of Thomas Jefferson — to make financial decisions that are sound and assist in the financial management of the Student Advisory Board of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn. An hourglass was presented to Susan, with the promise to maintain by resolution the minutes of all meetings and to strive to make the Student Advisory Board’s time together productive. A statue of Adelphi’s iconic panther was presented to William, who, along with his fellow inductees, promised to always take great pride in their fellow students, pride in their beloved Adelphi and pride in themselves as student leaders.

A copy of Charlotte Morrill’s The History of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn 1863-1916 was presented to Ilona, with the promise not only to safeguard it, to protect it and to study it, but also to continue it by writing its next chapter and beyond as members of the Student Advisory Board of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn.  The official school colors or brown and gold were presented to Albert, who accepted with the promise to represent the thoughts, ideas and spirit of all Lower, Middle and Upper School students. Finally, a gavel was presented to Andre with the promise to govern judiciously and fairly and to always work toward the best interests of the students of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn.

Following the presentation of symbols, board members were called upon to recite the oath of office, led by Ms. Romanos. Then each student was called to receive an official Student Advisory Board blazer, to be worn at all Academy events as a symbol of their student leadership status.

“The Annual Student Advisory Board Swearing-In Ceremony at Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn is always an important and enlightening event,” Ms. Romanos said. “It’s important because the entire student body gets to see several of their peers shine as leaders and become part of this prestigious board, and it’s enlightening because each year we are able to see just how devoted these special students are to furthering the mission and goals of the Academy. It’s going to be a productive and exciting year ahead, for sure.”
