BAY RIDGE –At the very outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn teachers and staff members worked tirelessly to ensure that a smooth transition to digital learning could take place. Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos made certain that Adelphi families could remain actively involved in the school community through the use of innovative virtual classroom technology, face-to-face video conferencing sessions, social and emotional learning program enhancements and individual counseling time built into a new and exciting online curriculum.

The results have been extraordinary, and Adelphians have certainly risen to the occasion. They’ve adapted quickly, without complaint, and have continued to demonstrate the leadership qualities that set so many of them apart from their peers. Even the youngest students have enjoyed hands-on virtual learning during this time. From virtual field trips to group story time with their teachers, learning has remained the priority for them and their classmates at every level.

“Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn rightfully prioritized the health and safety of its students and their families by transitioning to distance learning early on in this time of crisis,” Ms. Romanos said. “Our move to online education was a remarkable success and a testament to the energy and dedication of our faculty, students and families.”

Immediately following the implementation of its distance learning program, Adelphi began looking for ways to support and encourage the community during this time of crisis. The Academy quickly introduced its ongoing #GiveALittleBit Campaign, through which Adelphi recognizes those who “give a little bit” of themselves to others when help is needed most.

The campaign has recognized such organizations as the Merchants of Third Avenue, the Ben-Bay Kiwanis Club and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce for their leadership efforts during this period of uncertainty. It has also commended individuals from within the Adelphi and larger Brooklyn community who have acted selflessly during this crisis – nurses, doctors, family members, volunteers and others who have gone above and beyond to help others or better themselves or their community.

“Adelphi’s ongoing #GiveALittleBit Campaign has allowed us to spread positivity by sharing stories of selflessness, hope and leadership during this difficult time,” Ms. Romanos explained. “Whether recognizing community members for their generosity or commending students who have volunteered to help others in some way, Adelphi continues to celebrate these much-appreciated acts of ‘giving’ on a regular basis.”

The campaign will continue throughout the school year. If you know someone affiliated with Adelphi who has exhibited selflessness or leadership, contact the Academy at 718-238-3308 or send an email to socialmedia@adelphi.org with a description so that they can be featured through this special campaign!
