BAY RIDGE – Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s transition to distance learning has brought with it a number of unique opportunities to keep students and staff engaged in the curriculum and directly connected to the global community. One of these is the Academy’s continual sharing of #ThankYouHeroes messages, part of a broader #GiveALittleBit Campaign designed to spread positivity and recognize those individuals and businesses who are acting selflessly and offering leadership throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Adelphi is proud to continue to recognize those who “give a little bit” of themselves to others when help is needed most.

Adelphi’s weekly #ThankYouThursday social media posts have presented an opportunity for Adelphians to voice their support for frontline heroes battling coronavirus or braving the elements to provide essential services on a weekly basis. These messages have expressed gratitude for nurses, doctors, EMTs, police officers, firefighters, Uber drivers, delivery people, postal workers and grocery store workers, as well as businesses like Starbucks, Whole Foods and Duane Reade. Medical facilities like Maimonides Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering and NY Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital have also been acknowledged through this campaign.

“The #ThankYouHeroes messages have given all Adelphians a platform to express their gratitude for the true heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic – from our brave frontline workers to the essential businesses staying open to provide services during this time,” Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos explained. “We at Adelphi are proud to salute them all and will continue to do so on a weekly basis so that they know how much their sacrifices mean to those of us who are staying home to help stop the spread of this deadly virus.”

Many members of the Adelphi community have also been recognized through these postings for their work with local hospitals, city agencies and other essential businesses. Adelphi encourages its followers to share these weekly postings on their own timelines each week to spread the gratitude as far as possible!

As the oldest private, independent, continuing, coeducational, college-preparatory day school in the borough and one of the oldest in the nation, Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn, “the little school of big dreams” has been “effectively preparing  young people for college, career, and life, one day at a time” for over 150 years.  Founded in 1863 and located in the historic Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, Adelphi enrolls students from two years of age through twelfth grade.  A strong emphasis is placed on small class size, individualized attention, self expression, critical thinking and challenging hands-on learning through Adelphi’s founding philosophy and dedication to the education of the “total child.” Adelphi students excel within a small, intimate, safe, caring, nurturing, and secure environment through Adelphi’s core values and founding principles of pride, tradition, spirit, and excellence. The student-teacher ratio is 8 to 1 and Adelphi is a New York State Regents Exempt Program with a 100% college application, acceptance and attendance rate.  A founding member of the Coalition of Essential Schools, Adelphi receives its charter from the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and has been a member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools since 1928.  Ms. Iphigenia Romanos serves as Head of School.
