BAY RIDGE – Adelphians celebrated Halloween on Friday, October 30th, 2020 by dressing in elaborate costumes and walking the runway for Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s Annual Lower, Middle & Upper School Halloween Costume Contest. Held inside the John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre, the contest featured superheroes, cartoon characters, princesses, witches, ghosts and ghouls hoping to impress a panel of judges to earn prizes.
After each student had walked the runway, the judges deliberated and compared notes to determine first, second and third prize winners in each age group. Lower School first place winner Zayn roared his way to the top prize by dressing as his favorite dinosaur. Second place winner Regina made the perfect Minnie Mouse and third place winner David portrayed Super Mario with style. Middle School first place winner Emma took her portrayal of Buzz Lightyear to infinity and beyond to capture the trophy. Second place winner Svetlana rocked her ’90s costume and third place winner Michael dazzled with his light-up shirt and goggles. Upper School first place winner Yura spooked the judges with his uncanny portrayal of the Joker. Second place winner Bella came dressed as a witch and third place winner Reena was a colorful rock star.

Svetlana won second prize in the Middle School Costume Contest for her 1990s costume!
Michael won third prize in the Middle School Costume Contest!
Members of Adelphi’s faculty and staff also participated in the contest and walked the runway, dressed as animals, witches and other recognizable characters. Student Advisory Board members William, Susan and Ilona served as judges for the faculty contest and awarded top prize to Ms. Fregara for her elaborate scarecrow costume.
Adelphi’s Halloween celebration began earlier that morning with the Annual Lower School Trick-or-Treat Parade, during which the younger students visited each classroom and office to collect candy and show off their adorable costumes. Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos greeted trick-or-treaters outside her office and remarked at their costumes while handing out delicious candies.

Yura won first prize in the Upper School Costume Contest for his uncanny portrayal of the Joker!
Ms. Fregara received “Best Costume” honors for her scarecrow costume in the Faculty Halloween Costume Contest!
“Halloween is always an exciting time at Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn,” Ms. Romanos said. “Our students showcased their creativity by dressing in unique and elaborate costumes, posed for photos, then walked the runway one at a time as part of the Academy’s Annual Halloween Costume Contest.
