BAY RIDGE – Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s prestigious “Student of the Month” program continued in early May as five outstanding students were recognized for demonstrating extraordinary effort during the month of April. Amalia (Lower School), Justin (Middle School), James (Upper School), Samuel (Scholar-Athlete) and Elizabeth (Student-Artist) received their official pins, congratulatory letters and certificates signed by Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos during a very special assembly inside the John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre. These exceptional Adelphians recently sat down with the Panther Press Room for an exclusive interview, during which they shared some details about themselves and their experiences at Adelphi.
Lower School Student of the Month Amalia is new to Adelphi, but already feels like part of a very special family. “I love playing with my friends and going on field trips,” she smiled. Amalia loves science and she also loves animals. Both of her passions may lead to a rewarding career. “I want to be a vet or an astronaut because I can help animals and also fly up into the sky and see the planets,” she said. Amalia always works hard and encourages her classmates to do the same. “Do all your homework and always try your best!” she said.
Lower School faculty member Ms. Mani said, “Amalia has fit in perfectly with her classmates and the Adelphi family. She participates in class and is a great friend to others. I am so proud of her for receiving this award!”
Middle School Student of the Month Justin loves to participate in sports and is very active in his free time. “I like basketball and soccer,” he said. Though new to Adelphi, Justin is already becoming involved in student life, most recently signing up to travel with his classmates to Washington, D.C. for Adelphi’s annual Spring Leadership retreat. He learned a lot on the trip, he said. “I enjoyed seeing all the monuments and learning about our history,” he said. “It was an exciting experience and I’m grateful for the chance to have gone.” Justin has some important advice for his classmates as well. “You should definitely work hard and participate in class so the teacher knows you’re interested and paying attention!” he said.
Homeroom teacher Mr. Cook said, “Justin works hard and always participates in the class discussion, He is interested in the material, which comes across to anyone who engages with him about history. This honor is well earned!”
Upper School Student of the Month James is looking forward to graduation day, after which he will enroll in Brooklyn College to pursue a career in photography or graphic design. “I like taking photographs and learning about lighting and different editing methods,” he said. James recently operated the spotlight for the Theater Arts Program’s Winter 2025 production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” and is excited to pass the torch to the next generation of Stage Crew members at the upcoming Spring musical revue. “It takes concentration and discipline to operate the lights, but I’m sure I can teach the next group how it’s done.” An active member of Adelphi’s Weight Training Club, James takes fitness seriously. “You learn a lot about specific muscle groups and what to target to get the results you desire,” he said. James said he will miss the day-to-day experience at Adelphi when he graduates in June. “I’ll miss the teachers, of course, and my friends, but I’m thankful for everything they’ve done for me along the way,” he said.
Homeroom teacher Ms. Isufi said, “James has spent his final months at Adelphi being involved and making the most of his time. From weight training to theater, he has taken interest in a variety of activities that have helped round him into a true Adelphian. Great job, James!”

Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s April 2025 “Of the Month” award recipients welcomed parents and guests for a special congratulatory celebration hosted by Head of School Ms. Romanos.
Scholar-Athlete of the Month Samuel was excited to receive this recognition. “It’s nice to be recognized for doing something good,” he said with a smile. What he’s done is excel as a member of Adelphi’s Weight Training Club and in daily athletic activities. “I’m doing very well in weight training,” he said. “I can lift more weight now and I feel great physically.” In gym class, Samuel enjoys playing basketball. “I like to practice my jump shot,” he said. Samuel is a talented artist as well, having been featured in Adelphi’s Annual Fall Auction of Fine Art. He hopes to one day turn his artistic talent into a career. “I’m going to create art that people want to buy and make a whole lot of money!” he smiled.
Physical Education instructor Mr. Biale said, “Samuel is a dedicated athlete who takes physical conditioning very seriously. He has grown by leaps and bounds this year and is a great choice for Scholar-Athlete of the Month!”
Student-Artist of the Month Elizabeth loves to draw and paint in art class and at home. She enjoys studying a variety of subjects at Adelphi and always tries her best. “I really like math. It’s my favorite part of school!” she exclaimed. When she grows up, Elizabeth would like to serve and protect others as a member of New York’s Finest. “I want to be a police officer!” she smiled. “I like to help people in trouble.” Her biggest piece of advice to others is to simply enjoy the experience. “No matter what, you should always have fun in school,” she said.
Lower School teacher Ms. Holman said, “Elizabeth is so creative! She is always drawing something interesting and sharing it with her classmates. I am proud of her for embracing her imagination to create meaningful artwork at such a young age.”
Congratulations once again to Adelphi’s outstanding Students of the Month for April Amalia, Justin, James, Samuel and Elizabeth!
