BAY RIDGE – Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s prestigious “Student of the Month” program continued in early December as five outstanding students were recognized for demonstrating extraordinary effort during the month of November. Amira (Lower School), Aiden (Middle School), Jake (Upper School), Dylan (Scholar-Athlete) and Michelle (Student-Artist) received their official pins, congratulatory letters and certificates signed by Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos during a very special assembly inside the John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre. These exceptional Adelphians recently sat down with the Panther Press Room for an exclusive interview, during which they shared some details about themselves and their experiences at Adelphi.

Lower School Student of the Month Amira is a first-time recipient of this prestigious award. “I feel excited and proud,” she smiled. The new Adelphian has already figured out the recipe for success at Adelphi. “I listened, I helped Ms. Mani and Ms. Holman, and I did all my homework!” she exclaimed. Amira’s favorite subject is English Language Arts (ELA). “I like reading and writing,” she said. When she grows up, Amira would like to pursue a career in ophthalmology. “I want to become an eye doctor,” she said. “I find it very interesting.” At Adelphi, Amira has enjoyed the Spirit Days and holiday celebrations. “I really liked Halloween because I got so much candy,” she smiled. “It took me two days to eat it all.”

Lower School faculty member Ms. Holman said, “Amira has already made such a big impact at Adelphi by being a great example to her classmates. She always does her work and participates in class. Plus, her energy and positive attitude are infectious. She certainly deserves this ‘Of the Month’ award!”

Middle School Student of the Month Aiden is very proud of his accomplishment and appreciative of having been selected. “I feel so happy,” he said. Aiden is a fan of fast cars and hopes to one day become a professional race car driver. “I love cars and want to drive fast,” he said. His favorite car is a Lamborghini. “It has more than 600 horsepower,” he said. Aiden’s favorite moment thus far at Adelphi was the annual Fright Fest trip, during which he enjoyed riding rollercoasters with his friends. He has some intelligent advice for his fellow students who wish to attain “Of the Month” honors. “Do your homework and all your classwork,” he said. “Also you need to study and listen to the teachers.”

Homeroom teacher Ms. Saleh said, “Aiden has shown tremendous growth during his time at Adelphi. He participates in class and is kind to all of his classmates. I am proud of him for achieving this honor and wish him continued success!”

Upper School Student of the Month Jake said he is proud to have earned this prestigious honor. “It feels great,” he said. “I’m thankful for everyone who helped me along the way.” Jake is a talented artist who has earned praise for his original work in the past. “I’m an artist,” he said. “I like creating landscapes that look real.” Many of his masterpieces take him less than 30 minutes to complete, he said. “I’m always creating,” he said. Jake said he is considering combining his creativity with his love of technology by pursuing a career in graphic arts. He has some important advice for his fellow Adelphians. “Keep working hard, try everything and eventually you will find what you were meant to do.”

Homeroom teacher Ms. Wong said, “Jake comes to class prepared to learn and ready to participate. He takes his work seriously and is very creative. He has emerged as a leader among his classmates and I applaud him for earning this honor.”

Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s November 2024 “Of the Month” award recipients welcomed parents and guests for a special congratulatory celebration hosted by Head of School Ms. Romanos.

Scholar-Athlete of the Month Dylan knows why he was selected to receive this award. “I’m super fast!” he smiled. “I run around the gym so fast and I don’t even train!” Dylan is enjoying his time at Adelphi so far. “I like that we learn, especially math and science,” he said. Speed will likely play a key role in Dylan’s future, as he plans to become a train conductor or a pilot. “I love trains because of how fast they go,” he said. His favorite sport is tennis, which he enjoys watching and playing. Dylan’s advice for his fellow Adelphians is wise beyond his years. “We all have to participate, listen and help each other,” he said.

Physical Education instructor Mr. Biale said, “Dylan just might be the fastest Lower Schooler I’ve ever seen! He always gives 100 percent effort and works to make his classmates and teammates better. I can’t think of a better choice for Scholar-Athlete of the Month honors. Congratulations!”

Student-Artist of the Month Michelle was one of Adelphi’s featured artists in the Annual Fall Auction of Fine Art. Her selected piece depicted a woman’s face surrounded by butterflies. “I wanted to make something interesting and beautiful,” she explained. “I cut the butterflies out separately and pasted them onto the artwork to create a three-dimensional effect.” Michelle also enjoys participating in the performing arts. She is a member of Adelphi’s Theater Arts Program and looks forward to assisting as a member of the Stage Crew once again. “I also enjoy doing choreography,” she said. For her career, Michelle hopes to take over her family’s business as an optician. “It’s a good career and I’d love to pursue it more seriously,” she said.

Homeroom teacher Ms. Wong said, “Michelle is thoughtful, creative and detail-oriented in her approach to her artwork. She has high standards for herself and her dedication shows. She is a talented artist and her ideas, focus and technique are inspiring to others around her.”
